Birthday Dilemma

Tomorrow is my husband's birthday, and I don't have a gift for him. Not a single thing.

I've spent hours wandering stores and talking to salespeople, but what it comes down to is that the man has expensive wants. He'd really like one of these, but that's not happening for 5,000 reasons!

While trying to figure out a gift, I did make up these little cup sleeves to put on hot chocolate to take into his work tomorrow along with our favorite muffins.

I loved the Halloween ones and think this birthday version turned out handsomely.  But now I'm second guessing myself, should I put the sleeves on all the cups or just the birthday boys? Would it be weird handing his boss a cup of cocoa with 'hot stuff' written on it?

I'm a big fan of thank you cards.

I figure that since the sender is only 1 (uno!) we can get away with a fill in the blank card. There is plenty of room for mom to write a note too!

Break out the cards

The regular UNO card was recreated to be more fun, more toddler-ish. The middle card (you can see the back) comes out and has the info on it.

A lot of family members are states and oceans away. I've been trying to find ways to stay involved in each other's lives even though we are seperated. I think it is important for cousins to know each other and aunts and uncles, but I have been having a hard time thinking of things to keep us connected. What I came up with is an invitation for them to celebrate Lincoln's birthday by playing a game of UNO! This is something they can do in their own families and maybe the birthday boy's name will come up a few times.Closer family members received details of the party in place of the invitation to play UNO.

Do you have any good tips to stay connected?

UNO Invites

Dropped a stack of UNO invites in the mail yesterday--off to family members near and far.

I would be so happy to find polka-dots in my mailbox, hopefully they feel the same.

Intro to UNO

My baby is turning 1 next week. I had a brilliant idea of having an "UNO" themed party. But when I started working on the details, it started to appear more like a poker party than a toddler's birthday. I turned to my friend Google--because I thought for sure I couldn't have been the first mom to think of this. What I found was a bunch of pictures of parties for various 30-something aged Uno's out there. Not exactly what I was looking for. It appears I may be all alone in the world of UNO birthday celebrations.

I think I (with some help) have eliminated the look of visors and chips and brought out the fun, and the party will go on. Which I am so happy about because you are only UNO once and you can have circus party any year.

Over the next week I'll share my ideas of an UNO Birthday.
